The Masters is officially in the books, and as always, it was a week full of storylines and drama. Although world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler did his best to tone down the drama, pulling away late, it still made for an incredible tournament and sets the stage for plenty of questions as we start the clock for the U.S. Open. In the meantime, we set our sights on the RBC Heritage, which is no throwaway tournament given the field. This elevated event brings a ton of the world’s best to Harbour Town on the quick turnaround after Augusta. This is an interesting outright betting situation, trying to quantify how guys will react off last week and what numbers stand out for PGA best bets

If you were to chart out courses from bomber’s paradise to technical layouts, Harbour Town would be on the extreme side of technical layout, as it’s one of the more challenging venues all season. The course measures around 7,200 yards, but this Pete Dye layout will test the best players in the world.
Golfers need to be precise with irons, and no matter how aggressive they are off the tee, there isn’t really a way to overpower this layout. Keeping it on these thin fairways and out of the woods is priority 1, but this will test every club in the bag. Overall, this is one of the more unique courses players face, and it brings in a lot of different types of golfers who can succeed.
The field somewhat resembles a major, minus the LIV players that we saw last week. Scottie Scheffler and his second green jacket lead it off, followed by Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg. This field is going to provide some high numbers on the middling PGA Tour players if one of them can make a run, but it’s a big ask with so much firepower up top.
Let’s dive into the board and a few guys that are worth being on the betting card this week.
PGA Outright Pick #1: Patrick Cantlay
With so many big names in the tournament, there are a lot of ways to build out the top of the card. I wouldn’t fault anyone for going with guys like Schauffele or Aberg, and the numbers are all within the same range — outside of Scheffler, who is in another tier. However, I found myself going to Patrick Cantlay at 16-1 on BetMGM. Last week at Augusta, Cantlay found the weekend but was unable to muster much, finishing in a middling 22nd.
Cantlay can handle what Harbour Town demands, with an insane four top-5’s in his six starts here. Cantlay consistently gains tee to green here and doesn’t mind these Bermuda greens, having only lost strokes putting in two of the six starts. With this course being somewhat unique, I am weighing course history more heavily, and Cantlay once again should get to Sunday with a chance at a venue he’s loved over the years.

PGA Outright Pick #2: Justin Thomas
This is where it gets interesting, with Justin Thomas sitting at 50-1. Sure, it’s a major-level field, but at the same time, this number jumps out. I’m sure Thomas wants to forget last week, as he managed to miss the cut in one of the worst implosions ever. With only a few holes left, he had six shots to play with and managed three doubles and another bogey to fall just outside the line. I have no idea what that does to his psyche, but his ability to get in the mix is there.
Thomas has been a mixed bag this year, with a great start early but three straight poor showings, including The PLAYERS and The Masters, which are the two marquee events so far. One of the key problems has been his putter, which is going to need to flip if he wants a chance to compete here. A positive is that Thomas is 5-for-5 in making the weekend here in Hilton Head and hasn’t struggled much on these greens.
Trying to buy on a guy who is finding his game can be a frustrating exercise in the PGA betting world, but having seen Thomas turn it around so many times before, I’m willing to take a position at 50-1.

PGA Outright Pick #3: Byeong Hun An
Byeong Hun An is coming off a quality showing last week but is also heading to a course where he’s struggled. He finished 16th at Augusta, tied for his best result in a major in his career. Coming off that, it’s safe to say some parts of the game are working, and he will need that as he tries to tackle Harbour Town here.
An finished seventh at this course in 2018 but followed it with three straight missed cuts. One thing to note is it’s been a few years since An teed it up here, which is a positive in of how different his game is from years past.
It’s pretty clear that An’s major issue is putting, with him having lost strokes on the greens every single time he’s played here. That has to change if he even wants to think of getting that elusive PGA Tour victory. Still, it’s been a good 2024 for An, losing in a playoff in Hawaii and finishing inside the top 20 last week. If you want a guy further down the card, this is the type of name I’m comfortable with to see if he can get a hot putter for four rounds.
