The men’s college baseball world series has almost arrived. We have only two super regional games left to determine the pool of teams headed to Omaha. Southern Miss and Tennessee will start at 6 p.m. ET, then Texas and Stanford will play at 8 p.m. ET, both with a trip to Omaha on the line. College Baseball Tournament 2023 Betting Odds & Picks Today: Super Regionals
Hattiesburg Super Regional: Southern Miss vs. Tennessee | Monday, 6 p.m. ET
After losing Game 1 following a rain delay and postponement, the Tennessee Volunteers rallied from behind a four-run deficit in Game 2 to tie this series back up. They took down Southern Miss’ ace, RHP Tanner Hall, in the process. LHP Kros Sivley relieved Hall, which leaves Southern Miss with RHP Niko Mazza. Mazza owns a 4.13 ERA through 12 starts and 69.2 innings pitched.
We have a futures bet out on Southern Miss to win this series, but after Hall struggled on Sunday and the delay forced the Golden Eagles into their bullpen early, I’m not sure if they have the arms necessary to stop the Vols. That said, Tennessee’s pitching staff isn’t great, either. Monday’s starter, RHP Drew Beam, owns a 4.09 ERA through 15 starts and 72.2 innings pitched, but that spikes to 7.11 through his five starts and 19 innings pitched on the road.
These teams combined to score eight runs in Game 1 and another 12 in Game 2. They did so despite both teams putting impressive pitchers on the mound. College Baseball Super Regional Bet: UTK/USM Under 10.5 -120 at FanDuel
Stanford Super Regional: Stanford vs. Texas | Monday, 8 p.m. ET
The Texas Longhorns and Stanford Cardinal will do battle on the late slate. Stanford dropped the first game but got a 16-strikeout complete game from RHP Quinn Mathews in which he threw a whopping 156 pitches. Mathews’ performance swings the balance of this series by a meaningful margin; Stanford’s bullpen threw 105 pitches in Game 1 to Texas’ 55, but the Longhorns are now up to 140 while the Cardinal are still at 105.
The markets are split on Texas and Stanford here. The Longhorns opened as the favorite, but the Cardinal have picked up enough action to see their odds improve to -125 (54.5%). Texas started LHP Lucas Gordon in Game 1 and RHP Lebarron Johnson Jr. in Game 2, with RHP Travis Sthele relieving Johnson for four innings. Those three combined for 40 starts and 248.2 innings pitched this season. The rest of Texas’ staff have a combined six road starts and a combined 8.39 road ERA.
Neither Stanford nor Texas has announced a starting pitcher yet. Stanford may use RHP Matt Scott, who owns the third-most starts on the team but threw 25 pitches in the ninth inning on Saturday. Behind Scott, the Cardinal don’t really have a compelling alternative with much experience. However, Stanford’s offense has significantly outperformed Texas’ — the Cardinals rank 11th in OPS (.951) and total home runs (116); the Longhorns rank 59th (.881) and 41st (91), which is enough for me to back them in a game that should come down to offense.
